(Bare) Physical Structure of the Internet

One component of understanding the Internet is knowledge of its physical parts. Given below is a list of terms that will probably be useful an endeavor to understand the Internet. For each item:
•   locate it in relation to components of the diagram
•   describe it (hardware, software, wire, ...
•   indicate it's function
