                              Start menu, Programs, New Perspectives, v4
                                                           textbook choice
                                                        in Wright Hall labs
    STEPS - do the STEPS and turn in the answers,

    EXPLORE #2 - do ONLY the very 1st EXPLORE, which is the
                 Carpeting a Room EXPLORE problem on page 706 of textbook.

    See you next week, if April snows don't cause class to be cancelled!

    Note:  The class covered networking basics tonight in lecture, as well
           as covering problem solving phases and starting some 
           Ghostbusters material.  What are the 4 essential requirements
           for a computer network to exist?     ------------------------

           We also talked about modems, parity, protocols, analog and 
           digital communication, modulating discrete units of information
           into analog form (waves) and demodulating waves back into 0s 
           and 1s, i.e. into digital, binary, off/on information format.
           Modems allow the analog or voice wave telephone lines to 
           transmit digital off/on discrete information from one computer 
           to another.  A binary 0 is translated into a certain format
           by a modem and a binary 1 is translated or encoded into a 
           different format.  The receiving modem translates the waves
           back either to a 0 or to a 1 for the receiving computer,
           and the sending in called modulating and receiving is called
           demodulating.             ---

           In the lab we did some Visual Programming lab (from textbook
           CD-ROM preview and play, as well as publishing a 3 slide
           PowerPoint presentation to the web, which included a 
           Alt+PrintScreen captured screen snapshot on one PowerPoint
           slide, that had been CROPPED and then RESIZED using the 
           Picture toolbar cropping button and the cropping and resizing
           handles that are part of vector or object graphics techniques.
