Techniques and instructions for making the PhotoShop tile for your web page wallpaper assignment: 1. the tile should be about 2 1/2 by 2 1/2 or 3 by 3 or at most 4 inches by 4 inches in size. 2. you can either use the Gradient tool to put down a colored background for your tile or use the Alt+Backspace technique to fill in the background of the canvas with a pretty color or a gradient of your choice. 3. the line tool is in row 9 of the photoshop toolbox. when you hold your mouse button down on a toolbox entry, it displays all of the other optional tools that are available to you. under the rectangle tool in row nine, you will find the oval and line tools, as well as others. 4. at the top of the photoshop window, you will see the line options. you can choose to arrow heads at the start or at the end of every line you draw, or at both ends of the line. 5. choose a color for the lines you are about to draw. 6. draw some lines going in different directions. they will all be in the same color, until you make a new layer. 7. change the line thickness often, for the same color lines. 1 px means 1 pixel wide lines; 2 px; 3 px; 4 px; 5 px; etc. 8. the filter menu has an other choice. under the other choice, you will see the offset choice. filter menu, other subcommand, offset command when you do this command, you will be warned that photoshop will need to rasterize the layer, so go ahead and click okay to that warning dialog box. this command allows you to move the entire active layer that you have selected, which would be the one you just finished working on. be sure that wrap checkbox is checked, so as you move the arrows off one edge of the canvas they wrap around and come back on the opposite edge of the canvas. this will make the whole wallpaper background you create on your web page fit together perfectly. be sure to offset enough to have some of the arrows reach the edge and wrap to the opposite edge or edges. 9. make a new layer, pick a different color for this new layers arrows and lines. repeat steps 5, 6, 7 and 8 working in this new layer with the new color arrow headed lines. 10. repeat step 9 at least three more times so you have at least 5 different line colors in your graphic. 11. save your graphic for the web and use either GIF or JPG. you can leave it on whatever photoshop suggests by default, if you wish. 12. make a simple and very short web page to show your graphic as wallpaper by using the [BODY BACKGROUND="mytile.gif"] and use a line at the top of the page in the HEADER 1 style identifying yourself in some way...
