Subject: [810-025-01-FALL] Monte Carlo new example... From: "Mark Jacobson" Date: Mon, November 2, 2009 11:23 am To: 810-025-01-fall@uni.edu Hi 025 students, http://www.cs.uni.edu/~jacobson/025/monte/MonteCarlo.html was just now created to help you with another example of using Excel to find an area by Monte Carlo (throwing darts) simulation. The example is identical to your current assignment in that it asks you to find the area between to functions. f(x) = 0.45x or y1 = 0.45x g(x) = x or y2 = x The PDF file shows the Excel formulas and a graph of the two functions, from x = 2 to x = 20 in this case. A link to this new example is on the assignment page too. http://www.cs.uni.edu/~jacobson/025/monte/MonteCarlo.html It is easy to see how you make the Formulas Show using Excel 2007 in the screen snapshot of the example too. You only need to print out the first 10 or 15 rows of the Excel spreadsheet. DO NOT PRINT 1,001 or 2,001 ROWS!!!!! ------------------------------------- PRINT the SELECTED area after selecting only the first 10 or 20 rows and the columns A through G or J or whatever column you need. DO NOT PRINT OUT more than 20 rows. I just need to see the first rows of your simulation. In Excel 2007, you go to PRINT PREVIEW to get the PAGE SETUP choice. ------------- ---------- You may want to change from PORTRAIT to LANDSCAPE using PAGE SETUP. -------- --------- ---------- When you print, there is a PRINT WHAT area where you can choose SELECTION and choose only the portion of the spreadsheet you have selected prior to doing the Print command.
