Hi 030 VB students, Read chapter one of the textbook for material about binary, the base 2 system for next Wednesday's lecture class. Believe it or not, the binary will be closely related to and help you to better understand computer graphics and Graphical User Interface (GUI) techniques and concepts. On Monday morning, September 11th, we will have a hands-on class in Wright 112 lab. If you are able to attend the 8 am session, remember to come at 8 instead of at 9 for the lab class. See you on Monday either at 8 OR at 9 in the Wright 112 lab on 2nd floor. There were two handouts today in class. One was on chapter one material: on binary (base 2) and decimal (base 10) and octal (base 8) and hexadecimal (base 16) number systems. The 2nd handout had an exercise involving variables and the Image control and the LoadPicture() function. It had two questions that students begin to think about as a group exercise. It also had an example program for browsing through all of your graphics files. Pages 250 and 251 cover the Drive, Directory and File list box controls. We will cover those in lab and in class next week (September 11, 13, 15). There would have been a 3rd handout, but my office computer could not access the Z: drive for my files. We got that fixed, and then the computer would not allow me to print any more. There was not enough time to fix that or go to the lab and login, or you would have received assignment #2 today! You will receive assignment #2 on Monday, during or after the lab class. Don't forget to attend class at 8 instead of 9 on Monday in WRT 112, if you can come early. If you are coming to the 9 am session and have a laptop with Visual Basic on it, feel free to bring your laptop computer along. Mark
