From jacobson@CNS.UNI.EDU Thu Oct 12 10:11:22 2000 Date: Thu, 12 Oct 2000 10:10:04 -0500 (CDT) From: Mark Jacobson To: 810-080-01@uni.edu, 810-080-02@uni.edu Subject: HW by 5 p.m. Tuesday, test Wed/Thu Hi 080 students, The current homework will be accepted on Monday and Tuesday, during your class, but if you need extra time to finish it and the background of one more lecture period, you can have until Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m. to slide it UNDER my door, 323 Wright Hall. The midterm exam is on Wednesday (Thursday) next week. How many times should you have done the practice quiz that is on my web page (17 questions, interactive, graded by PERL program) by the end of this week? At least once. How many times should you have taken it before the midterm gets here? At least twice. ----- Only 3 students had taken this practice quiz so far in the 8 TTh section and it was created on Monday evening. Use the class web page resources and check it often! Why do the practice quiz at least twice? You build up and hone skills and further develop understanding by repetition. You will NOT have enough time to do the midterm exam unless you practice. Let S be the set of things you need to know for the exam. Let D be the set of things you do know, where D subset of S. Let R be a subset of D, where R is defined as "know it, but have to think about it" Let W be a subset of D, where W is defined as "know it well" Let N be a subset of D, where N is defined as "know it, and its 2nd nature" If W Union N is the empty set or has a very small cardinality, you will NOT have enough time to complete the exam. --- Mark
