Turtle Trigonometry - Where's Waldo Homework due on Friday

  1. VIP: TwoTurtlesTrigonometry090916.pdf Assignment: This assignment is DUE ON FRIDAY.

Assignment Due on Friday 9/16/16 and handed in at the start of class.
Write your table #1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 under or beside your name.

  2. Handout: Solving the cro 12 twelve turtles move FD 10 (Forward 10 steps) and where is turtle with WHO #2 problem - using the SOH and the CAH (Sine and Cosine) TRIGONOMETRY functions.

    1. The four questions handout on turtles #2 and #1.
11/19/13 problem from Fall of 2013 exam.

    2. The scanned in hand-written solution with lots of drawings making the problem solving approach and steps very clear.
Not to mention showing the algebra steps. Not to mention showing the numerators and denominators.

SHOW YOUR WORK! Step by step process of arriving at the answers. Include drawings to illustrate how to understand the problem and the solution.

    3. In DEPTH explanation of Twelve Turtles: Trigonometry and Turtle Graphics - what is the SINE of 30 degrees? What is the COSINE of 30 degrees?

Where is WALDO? (What is the xcor and the ycor of the given turtle). SOH, CAH, TOA...

  3. Today's class used the Pythagorean Theorem equation that the Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz got so excited about!
3 squared plus 4 squared = 25 and the square root of 25 is 5, so the hypotenuse has length 5.
3, 4, 5 side length sides is classic example for right triangles.

  4. The HORIZONTAL LEG is 160, the VERTICAL LEG is 120 and the HYPOTENUSE is 200. Be sure to turn on the sound on your computer. Takes about 12 seconds to draw the triangle with playing the sounds and saying the words.

    Classic right triangle example is 3, 4, 5. 3 squared plus 4 squared = 5 squared. 9 + 16 = 25.

         2 2 2
        3 + 4 = 5

        9 + 16 = 25

    windsor:~/web/1025> bc

    120 ^ 2 = 14400 3 ^ 2 = 9

    160 ^ 2 = 25600 4 ^ 2 = 16
                      ----- --
    14400 + 25600 = 40000 9 + 16 = 25

    200 ^ 2 = 40000 5 ^ 2 = 25

  5. The Kesha TIK TOK video created by two former UNI students.
Shown during 12 pm class, to be shown on Wednesday in 8 am class.

Wednesday, September 14th

  1. Background for Data Flyer SHODOR tool: Slope and Intercept equation for a straight line. And equation that is called a linear equation shows a LINEAR relationship between two things, between x and y.

8 am MWF class: This will be handed out on Friday. It has the same four points we did as an example today, but moves much slower in presenting the concepts of SLOPE and INTERCEPT.
See if you get 0.8 and 1.2 for the answers to questions 1 and 2 in the PDF.
    (1, 2), (1, 4), (6, 6) and (6, 10) are points a, b, c and d.

  2. The Data Flyer tool will be introduced today. y = mx + b where m is the slope and b is the intercept and the y = mb + b is a line we can graph.

  3. The Data Flyer tool study guide from Fall of 2015. Lots of explanation and examples.

Turtle Trigonometry - Where's Waldo Homework due TODAY!

  1. Using the TANGENT (TOA) to solve Monday's problem instead of using SINE and COSINE.

  2. Scratch to draw a circle. Scratch.MIT.edu is the URL for Scratch at MIT...

  3. NetLOGO and drawing a circle.

  4. Scratch and TIK TOK by Kesha or two in the box, ready to go, we be fast and they be slow by Ghostbusters Peter Venkman, Raymond Stantz and Egon Spengler.
