From jacobson@math-cs.cns.uni.edu Wed Jul 10 15:15:56 2002 Date: Wed, 10 Jul 2002 15:15:23 -0500 (CDT) From: Mark Jacobson To: 810-030-01@uni.edu Subject: Fixing Wright 339 and Wright 112 lab for VB, etc. Hi Visual Basic students, Tommorrow (Thursday), we will have a hands-on class in Visual Basic. At that time or anytime earlier tommorrow morning after I get out of my 8:40-9:40 a.m. class, ------- I will help you fix your Windows NT Wright Hall sessions so you can do Visual Basic here again. You basically can fix it yourself, if you telnet into cowboy.cns.uni.edu from anywhere (at home, or on campus from the library, or from your work, or from Wright Hall), as long as you are NOT logged into your Wright Hall windows session at the time. The remove-profile command will solve the problem. Here is what it looked like when I fixed my venkman student account, while logged into cowboy.cns.uni.edu, which is a Unix based cluster of machines named bebop, julia, spike, jet, and one other name I cannot remember. I was logged into bebop at the time. remove-profile is the command. If you get here before 9:40 a.m. and want to work on Visual Basic, any of the student employees working in Wright 339 or WRight 337 office or lab should be able to help you do the cowboy.cns.uni.edu login and the remove-profile command. Or you can wait till hands-on class time at 11 a.m. in Wright 112, and I will help you fix it. *** WRIGHT ONE-TWELVE LAB at 11 *** WRT 112, not WRT 339, WRT 112 venkman@bebop:~$ remove-profile This will remove your NT and Win2K Profiles. ********** WARNINGS ********* 1) This script will not work properly if you are logged into WinNT or Win2K on a lab machine as venkman. If you are please reboot in to linux and reconnect to run this again. 2) By running this script you will loose any files on your desktop as well as your windows settings *********@ WARNING ********* Do you want to continue [yN]:y Found ~/.WinNT-profile... removed. done removing profiles. The problem is now solved, as your next login to Windows in any Wright Hall lab will cause the server to give you a brand new, up to date Windows NT profile, since your old one is missing, having been removed by remove-profile command. -------------- Mark P.S.
