1. How to import a file from Excel to SPSS - be sure to Save As your Excel 2007 file in the Excel 97-2003 Workbook, because SPSS is not capable of importing Excel 2007 format files. Practice Excel workbook with three different worksheets. We will use Independent Sample T-Test on the data. 2. How to recode variables - it is usually best to recode variables into a different variable, but the tutorial linked to below here shows you both ways. 3. How to compute new variables. 4. How to do variable and value labels. 5. How to run basic stats - chi-square, t-test, ANOVA, correlation, regression. We might get to ANOVA today in the SPSS class. We are not likely to get to correlation and regression until a follow-up, part two class. 6. You are welcome to come to the Monday class if you want further practice and experience. It generally will be a repeat of today's class, except for differences in questions that arise and improvements that are made based on how today's class goes. 7.
