Hi 023 (Microcomputer Systems) students, Here is my web page: http://www.cns.uni.edu/~jacobson Class web page: http://www.cns.uni.edu/~jacobson/c023.html --------- Please Do Not Throw Sausage Pizza Away and the SEVEN layers of the OSI Networking Model. links to http://www.cns.uni.edu/~jacobson/secure/LayersOSI.htm You can look at this powerpoint slide show ahead of time, if you want to preview it, but it will take several weeks and many exercises and explanations BEFORE it all makes sense, especially subnet masks: PowerPoint Slides: IP addressing, subnet masks and IP numbers. I'll suggest that you read pages 16-18 of the textbook for now, to supplement the material on the OSI Seven Layers. I will install the textbook CD ethereal on my own laptop computer during one of the next couple of classes, so you can see how that is done. At that point I can start demonstrating a few things and having you try them out too, after you install the textbook network packet sniffer software on your PC, if you have access to one. If the Physics building is going to be a problem, I will get Viv to install it on our Wright Hall network, so we can use it in some hands-on computer lab classes here. Mark
