Date: Fri, 4 May 2007 15:05:42 -0500 (CDT) From: Mark Jacobson To: Flash Animation Class Subject: Flash summer class 810:088 Hi June/July Flash students, The web site for our class will be: http://cns2.uni.edu/~jacobson/flash/ 1. The Flash class has NO PREREQUISITES, and the Instructor Permission requirement mistake has been corrected by the registrar. Anyone can now register for the class WITHOUT INSTRUCTOR PERMISSION. Right now, I have the following majors represented in the class: (3) Art: Studio Emphasis (Graphic Design emphasis probably) (2) Graphic Communications: (1) Art: History Emphasis (1) Music: (1) Computer Science: (1) Math: As you can see, there are lots of different types of majors represented in the class! 2. Having taught summer school many different times, I realize students may need to miss class for a family vacation or for the week of RAGBRAII. I am very flexible and accomodating on that, especially this summer. I will be glad to go over whatever class or classes you missed when you get back from your planned or unplanned absence. I especially am glad to go over Flash again and again this summer outside of the class time, as it will give me an extra chance to review it and explain it and master it. Flash is an unbelievable piece of software! Very enjoyable! 3. We will have class be hands-on in one of the Studio IT classrooms starting either at 3 p.m. or 3:45 p.m. every day, so there will be a hands-on component to the Flash class for every class period. 4. The textbook for the class is indicated on the web site. http://cns2.uni.edu/~jacobson/flash/ I will give you some handouts of material from other textbooks from time to time, but the textbook we are using is: a. very reasonably priced, and b. covers all the most important topics for becoming a very effective Flash animation creator, including the all important ActionScript language that unleashes all of its power. 5. I am taking a class on WebCT next week, along with video editing and some other topics. I will try to use UNI's WebCT this summer for the first time. I did take a class on it back in the late 1990s, but never got around to actually using it. I did have a class one year ago this May term that I was one of the presenters for where everything was made available on WebCT. It was a class only for faculty and staff and was about the 3 C's (Curiousity, Creativity and Critical Thinking) and increasing the effectiveness of and impact of education in the classroom at UNI. Feel free to let me know if you have already had a class at UNI where the instructor posted grades and/or had you submit or get some of the assignments over WebCT. Did you like WebCT? I went to a seminar last month where selected UNI students spoke to selected UNI faculty and staff about: What students want: what UNI students like best and what UNI students dislike most about their classes WebCT is one of the things the students on the panel and the student survey discovered was a good thing... 6. My web site is http://www.cns.uni.edu/~jacobson and if you are taking classes this fall, and have not heard about the computer applications certificate, you might want to consider it: http://cns2.uni.edu/~jacobson/cert.html The following two fall courses would have you 75% finished with the certificate: http://cns2.uni.edu/~jacobson/c022.html Microcomputer Applications and Systems Integration and http://cns2.uni.edu/~jacobson/c030.html Visual Basic (and Alice Animation) See you one month from this coming Monday at 2 p.m. If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email anytime! Mark
