1. Family Guy cartoon: Ding Fries are Done.

  2. Family Guy A-Team If you can find them, maybe you can hire them!

  3. UNI Panther volleyball is currently ranked 14th in the USA. (Early September, 2002). Ranked 6th at the end of the season!.

  4. John Coltrane

  5. Sat next to this magician at the concert of one of my favorite musicians, Carlos Santana. Nick and Mike were blown away by Santana's magic. They told me that the warm-up band Rusted Root would be great. They were right! Rusted Root would definitely be worth seeing as the main and only act anytime and anywhere in concert, not just at the Excel Center in Saint Paul on an August Sunday in 2002 on the evening before UNI started the 2002/2003 school year.

  6. The new Jewel album cover found via www.google.com and search on lyrics from 1st song she performed on Today Show, May 2nd, 2003. Follow your heart, your intuition was the lyric and the entire content of the search.

The 2nd link found by adding Jewel to the search phrase and lyric was this link to a server in the Netherlands. It has the lyrics for the entire song too, plus other links.

  7. I have seen S A N T A N A in concert five times in four different states.

Check out many more links from this Carlos Santana site created by a fan in Ireland.

What album broke the 16 year old record of 8 Grammy awards that Michael Jackson's Thriller album held since 1984?

  8. Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione painting from 1650. This Italian painting is 12 feet in height and more than 7 feet wide. First saw this painting in April of 1978, while attending a sociology conference and studying sociology in graduate school at UNI. Met Karen while looking at this work. She was an undergraduate at U of Minnesota, and was writing a paper reacting to and analyzing the painting. I sent her my thoughts from back in Cedar Falls. Saw this painting again many times over the years, but the best time of all was from about 4:20 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, August 25th, 2002, just a couple hours before the S A N T A N A concert. My best memories of visiting Karen later in 1978 were her dorm along the banks of the river, listening to one of her or her roommates SANTANA albums, watching Mork and Mindy in one of the dorm lounges (it used to be that every single dorm room and student did not have their own TV and there was a central area for such things), attending a class in a building near the east bank of the river, and hearing about her paper on billboards and what Lady Bird Johnson had done to clean up the highways from excessive billboards.

  9. Ravi Shankar, master of the sitar and Indian classical music. One of the hits at the original 1969 Woodstock and a huge influence on jazz and popular music, including the Beatles. Saw Ravi Shankar in concert in the mid 70s at Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City. Almost saw him in concert in the Twin Cities on May 3rd of 2002, but something even more moving and sacred called for being in Dubuque, Iowa that same evening and the next morning.

On November 19th, Ravi Shankar's daughter, Anoushka Shankar will perform in GDrinnell, Iowa.

The Indian Music Society of Minnesota has some good concerts each year.

If it were possible to go back and start over at age ten, I would plan my whole life and expend all my energy toward either becoming a master of the tabla and or the sitar and participating in the magic of unfolding of the musical ragas of Indian classical music.

  10. Unusual, but very inspiring Art link, with text commentary.

  11. Lyrics to a favorite Prince song - one of 14 Prince songs from the Joffrey ballet Billboards. When Doves Cry

Another awesome Prince song is: The Beautiful Ones, which is also in Purple Rain movie soundtrack, but unfortunately it was not in Billboards. One great ballad that reminds me of Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock or on the Jimi plays Berkley concert, which was shown as an art film at UNI during my first year of teaching CS.

  12. Lord of the Rings Theme: Only Time by Enya with animation and lyrics.

  13. Billy Preston and Syreeta song With You I'm Born Again. First played this on a state of the art keyboard synthecizer in spring 1985, courtesy of Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield and Byers needing a 5th partner.

  14. Celine Dion A New Day Has Come.

  15. The best movie ever made. I saw Wings of Desire at the Bijou Theatre at the University of Iowa on Friday, January 27th, 1989.

  16. One rule: No musical instruments allowed. But then the audience discovers almost everything can be a musical instrument. If you can't afford one, stop at the city dump, or an auto salvage yard, or go to your cleaning supplies closet or get out your lighter.

  17. Jazz Guitarist Pat Metheny. Saw twice in Iowa City (88 or 89 and 93). Best jogging tape for U of Iowa field house in 89/90 and 90/91 was Still Life/(Talking). Almost saw in Sioux City in November, but the concert was cancelled, which I found out at the end of my four hour drive.

  18. Programming As Performance Art, like music, dance, ...

  19. Anoushka Shankar concerts on November 19, 2002 at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa and on November 9th, 2003 in Appleton, Wisconsin (Ravi and Anoushka) at Fox Cities PAC. November 19th, 2003 was day of first piano lesson. The trip to Appleton, Wisconsin had a deer run into the side of my car on highway 20 between CF and Dubuque. Tour archive.
