Date: Thu, 22 Jan 2009 12:22:18 -0600 (CST) From: Mark Jacobson To: 810-088-11-spring@uni.edu Subject: [810-088-11-SPRING] Assignment to REPLY to this note, Maya students: ----- Hi Maya students, Remember, we will get to practice with Maya tommorrow on FRIDAY morning in ITTC 134 StudioIT 1 lab/classroom if all goes well. I forgot to ask what kind of computer own or have access to at your home, dorm room or apartment. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ... PLEASE ANSWER THE FOLLOWING FOUR SURVEY QUESTIONS ... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Which kind of computer do you own or have access to where you live? i. PC (Dell, Gateway, IBM, HP, etc) a. Is it running Windows VISTA or b. is it running running Windows XP. ii. Macintosh iii. Don't have access and just use the UNI computer labs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Did you know about the Textbook Fair Price Guarantee at University Book and Supply? Yes or No? --- -- http://www.panthersupply.com/textfairprice.asp?mscssid=3CC21AE7D5BD44ABBF0B6BA4C5E2B309 www.amazon.com the textbook would cost $34.38 with Standard Shipping and would cost $42.37 with Two-Day shipping but the estimated delivery date for Two_Day shipping is mysteriously January 28th, making it 6 days until the book would arrive. Of course, it would be cheaper to get the book at the bookstore anyway! So buying the book used at the bookstore is the best deal you can get right now, and buying the book new at the bookstore is a reasonable price too. If you want to wait till early February to get the book, with Free Super Saver Shipping the estimated shipping date (not arrival date) is January 28th. I'll have lots of handouts of some pages from the textbook, but it might be handy to own a copy. I forgot how reasonable priced a textbook that I chose. Introducing Maya 2008 by Dariush Derakhshani is the name of the textbook, if you want to look for it on www.amazon.com just to compare prices with the bookstore in light of the policy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. What do you think of the pace of the class and level of material presented in the class demonstrations, group exercises and assignment so far? a. Too fast and/or too difficult b. About right and/or just right c. Too easy and/or too slow or not challenging enough Of course, the class has gone differently due to the Maya software issues and dealing with Autodesk Maya discontinuing the Personal Learning Edition that came with the textbook and was available online. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. What do you think of dinosaur treats? Have you had them before? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Your Answers: 1. 2. 3. 4. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ... Thank you for answering the above FOUR survey questions ... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The following number of textbooks are left at the University Book and Supply store as of this morning: 16 new copies Price $39.99 7 used copies Price $30.00 16 + 7 = 23 Maya textbooks left... Not enough students were interested and had it in their budget to want to purchase the Autodesk Maya SuperPack at $150 for 14 month license or at $300 for the perpectual license, so the UNI computer consulting center (CCC) will not be able to buy the bundle of 25 of them. I spoke with the administrator of the SCC labs and they will be installing Maya in all the SCC labs, but it will be these first: 1st location: Library SCC computers <---- Not yet 2nd location: Union SCC computer lab <---- Not yet 3rd location: Towers SCC computer lab (24 hour lab) <---- Not yet I will let you know as soon as it is in the first lab, so you can FINALLY practice with Maya and I can give you some simple assigments to get started! Hopefully SOON! Of course, we will get to practice with Maya tommorrow morning in ITTC 134 StudioIT 1 lab/classroom if all goes well. Mark
