From jacobson@cns.uni.edu Wed Sep 24 12:04:37 2008 Date: Wed, 24 Sep 2008 12:04:37 -0500 (CDT) From: Mark Jacobson To: 810-088-11-fall@uni.edu Subject: Mail the Boiler (Train) scene file as an attachment... Hello Maya students, I decided to wait on in-person grading until a future assignment, so I can have you come in a take a hands-on quiz that would be something like do the Sun, Earth, Moon animation or model the HAND or a LAMP or something. I would record your time for that task too, but you would have plenty of notice so you could practice the tasks before the in person grading day appointment. http://www.cs.uni.edu/~jacobson/maya/info.html So just send me the SCENE file as an ATTACHMENT. I will download it to my laptop or desktop computer and open it up in Maya to grade it. You do NOT have to do any screen snapshots. If you use UNI email, the 5th icon in the Compose Message Window when you are SENDING a message or REPLYing to a message, is a paper clip icon. That is the ATTACH FILE command and in the Attach Files dialog box you can use the Browse... button to go find the MAYA scene file you saved on your hard drive or your flash drive. The click the OK button to close the Attach Files dialog and click the Send icon to send the Composed message, with the attached file. The Maya scene file might be named Train.mp or Assign1.mp or BoilerOfTrain.mp, for example. pandora:~> ls *trai*.m* 001train.mp 02trainboilerengine.mb pandora:~> ls -l *trai*.m* -rw------- 1 jacobson cns_fac 604008 Sep 23 17:51 001train.mp -rw------- 1 jacobson cns_fac 622796 Sep 23 21:10 02trainboilerengine.mb As you can see above, one student sent me the .mp file and one student send me the .mb file. They both worked fine and both were about the same size, about 600,000 bytes. 001train.mp 02trainboilerengine.mb 604,008 bytes Sep 23 5:51 PM 001train.mp MP 622,796 bytes Sep 23 9:10 PM 02trainboilerengine.mb MB -rw-r--r-- 1 jacobson cns_fac 917732 Sep 24 11:52 003trainBoiler.mp As I was writing this message, a 3rd assignment came in to my jacobson@cs.uni.edu mailbox. I renamed it 003trainBoiler.mp and opened it up fine. The .mb file came from a student who has the Maya Unlimited version. The .mp file extension will be what you see if you are using the free Maya PLE (Personal Learning Edition). ------- -- 917,732 Wednesday, Sep 24th - 11:52 AM - 003trainBoiler.mp ------- -- As you can see, the 3rd submitted assignment was 900,000 some bytes. See you on Friday in StudioIT 1. http://www.cs.uni.edu/~jacobson/maya/info.html Mark
