Sculpt Geometry Tool - Using Artisan to Sculpt NURBS

  1. After practicing the techniques in the following tutorial, create your own Egghead or Spongebob Squarepants or carve a pumpkin for Halloween or whatever using the Sculpt Geometry tool. You used and saw this tool in action during two classes - October 17th and October 20th. It might be a good idea to do the tutorial twice to get extra practice and develop skills with the sculpting tools. Push, Pull, Smooth, Relax and Erase are the 5 major tools. You are welcome to attempt Mr. Staypuft from the Ghostbuster's movie instead of Egghead, Spongebob, or a pumpkin. If you have another idea that uses all the skills, that is okay too.

  2. You should also read pages 234 to 236 of the textbook for further background. Using Artisan to Sculpt NURBS is the section title for that portion of the Introducing MAYA 2008 textbook by Dariush Derakhshani.

  3. This assignment will be due on Friday, October 24th. Please email the completed assignment scene as an attachment to jacobson@cs.uni.edu and put MAYA Assignment #3 as the Subject: of the email note. You do NOT need to do two different faces, but it is expected that the one funny face character you do is NOT the first attempt you ever made with Sculpt Geometry. VIP: You need to make at least one attempt as a practice run to get experience enough to be able to achieve an interesting result on a 2nd or 3rd or 4th attempt.

  4. Here is a link to the main Sculpt Surfaces page, including Ghostbuster's review and information about Rodin'

  5. Email note about assignment on the funny face eyebrows, lips, nose, eyes, eye brows, and head.
