From: MARK JACOBSON Subject: Test on Friday... To: 810-021-02@uni.edu, 810-021-03@uni.edu, 810-021-04@uni.edu Hi 021 students, The test on Friday, April 16th, will be over the following material: A. Excel Tutorials 3, 4 and 5 have been covered. You did assignments on Tutorial 3 (Developing a Professional Looking Worksheet) and on Tutorial 4 (Creating Charts). Tutorial 4 (Working with Excel Lists) we did much of the techniques from in lab a few weeks back. We sorted data in a list, used a data form to search for a record and to ADD, DELETE and CHANGE (EDIT) records in a list. We used AutoFilters to show only certain records, say only the records where STATE is equal to Iowa OR where STATE is equal to Illinois. Data menu, Filter commmand, Autofilter subcommand and show only records where Sales Total was > (Greater Than) 1000, for another example. We have shown subtotals for a List and also summarized a list using Pivot tables in the past too. The Excel handouts and exercises in lab will be covered. Recall the =INT(RAND()*6+1) formula for throwing a die (or a pair of dice) and seeing how many times we got doubles by saying =IF(A2=B2, "Doubles!!!! Hooray!!!!", " no "); and the =INT(RAND()*365+1) for simulating birthdays, <- Pulse and the =INT(RAND()*100+1) to simulate taking a free throw and seeing =IF(A2<=70, "Made it!", "Sorry, you missed...") for a 70% free throw shooter. Recall the MID and the LEFT and the RIGHT and the CONCATENATE and the LEN and the FIND functions. Recall the separating out of the LAST NAME and the FIRST NAME from the full names (like John Vincent Atanasoff). Recall and study the handout on Encrypting 4 letter words, by changing JOKE to OEJK and ABCD to BDAC and 1234 to 2413 using the MID and maybe the LEFT and the RIGHT functions to get each of the separate letters and the CONCATENATE function to put em all back together. B. The chapter 5 and chapter 6 material from the textbook. The first lecture on chapter 5 was on the Friday just before spring break. There were other lectures devoted mostly to chapter 5. You also did chapter 5 CPU Simulation and Troubleshooting LABS, so it was an emphacized chapter that way too. C. Lecture notes and handouts and lab experiences since the 1st exam. D. PhotoShop basics - a few questions on the basic tools or techniques that have been highlighted in demos and in lab and in your command button assignment. The 15 multiple choice questions you answered that are still there on the web page would be useful to glance at again. See you on Friday! Mark
