Hi PERL students, UNIX in Elizabeth Castro and on handouts... Pages 291 through 308 from Appendix C and Appendix D of the Elizabeth Castro book cover some of the Unix basics for chaos.cns.uni.edu commands like we did today, such as: mkdir (page 306). ls (page 304), pwd (page 303), cd (page 302), logout (page 297), ls -l (pages 291 and 294). I have some handouts on Unix and the dreaded chmod command and whether to use 755 or 644 (you NEVER have to do chmod 711 again, after doing it for your home directory folder, your web folder and your cgi-bin folder. Anyway, my chaos.cns.uni.edu handouts will make most all of the Unix we did today in the hands-on class clear enough that you will be comfortable with them after you get a little more experience. The chmod function is covered very nicely on pages 171 and 172 of the Greg Perry book. I will talk about Table 10-2 and page 172 of tommorrow in class, as I have made an overhead of that material. If you are new to web pages and chaos, be patient. You aren't expected to understand it from one hands-on class. Mark
