From jacobson@math-cs.cns.uni.edu Wed Feb 28 21:22:21 2007 Date: Wed, 28 Feb 2007 15:22:17 -0600 (CST) From: Mark Jacobson To: 810-023-01-spring@uni.edu Subject: [810-023-01-SPRING] Friday class in Sabin 227, quiz on Wednesday March 7th... Hello 023 students, You can see a review of today's group exercise on switches routing by MAC addresses at the Data Link layer in order to separate local area networks into different segments. Switches flood, filter or forward traffic. A bridge is a switch with only two ports. A switch is usually blessed with 3 or more ports, so we can have 3 or more network segments. See the URL: http://math-cs.uni.edu/~jacobson/c023.html to get to the Filter, Forward, Flood Switch Table group exercise solution. Class will be in Sabin 227 on Friday (March 2nd). We will do some more Photoshop and graphics activities in that class. I decided NOT to have the quiz until the following week. The 4th quiz will be on Wednesday, March 7th. It will cover Hamming codewords, parity, CRC, and the Switches and Bridges filtering and forwarding and flooding material from today and from last Friday's GIMP lab. It will also cover anything related to the E F E R A lecture and the EFERA acronym, which of course, includes under the A (Access control) the material about CSMA/CD. We will cover CRC, parity and Hamming codewords on Monday in the lecture. Mark
