Creating an Account with Code.org

Necessary to complete Competency Activity #1

Purpose

During Unit 1 you will spend a lot of time using the Code.org website both as a student (solving "plugged" programming activities or "puzzles") and as a teacher (reading lesson plans for "unplugged" lessons).

This activity will have you create your TEACHER account with Code.org so you are ready for Unit 1

Registering

In order to have access to certain resources on the Code.org website and to get credit for completing certain programming activities you must have a teacher account (not a student account) with Code.org, connect that account to my section, and be logged in to your account every time you visit their website.

  1. If you are brand new to Code.org you should register for a TEACHER account
  2.

  3. If you previously have an account with Code.org you may feel free to use this account but you may need to upgrade it to a TEACHER account rather than a student account. To check this.
    • Log on to your existing Code.org account
    • Go to the account settings by clicking on your name in the upper right hand corner and selecting account settings.
    • Scroll down to almost the bottom of the page. You should find a drop-down menu that says "Account Type." Change this to "teacher"
    • You will likely have to verify your email address again.
  4.

  5. Once you have confirmed that you have a TEACHER account you should join my course section.
    • Make sure you are logged in to your account (You will know that you are logged in if it greets you by name in the upper right hand corner of the page)
    • Navigate to https://code.org/join
    • Type in the section code: XYXTYQ
