Competency Activity

Please create a single, word processed, document (either .doc or .pdf) that answers the following questions.

  1. Why is "Understanding by Design" sometimes called "Backwards Design"?
  2. What are the three stages in the design process?
  3. How does this compare to how you think about instruction in your own classroom? [ALTERNATE: If you prefer, you can answer the question "How does this compare to how you were TAUGHT about classroom design in your education classes?" ]
  4. Given what you read, what do you think a teacher would need in order to start the process in their classroom?
  5. What do you think is good about the process?
  6. What do you think could be challenging about the process?

 

Submission

This counts as a competency demo in the course. In other words, each question will be assigned a score of 0-4 and an overall grade for the activity will be assigned.

While these questions are somewhat a matter of opinion - that is, they have multiple "right answers" - they can still be graded for competence based on how well you explain and defend your answer(s). Recognize that the degree to which you do so will have an impact on your grade.
