Computer Science I

Activity 01

Simple modifications to an entire picture

Due on paper at the start of class on Monday, March 9th

Next week we will be starting a unit on sound.  Before we move on I want you to reflect on pictures for a little bit.  We will use the results of this activity to help us build a framework for our unit on sound when that step is appropriate.

1)  Go back through your notes and the textbook and make a list of all of the modifications that we made to pictures.  You also may include on this list things that you have done with pictures in the past but that we didn't actually do in our unit. If you think about it you should be able to list 20 or more actions/modifications that we made to pictures

2)  Look back over the list you made in step 1.  What do these different modifications have in common?  Where are some of the me different from others?

3)  Using the similarities and differences you developed in step #2, develop a classification system for the modifications you listed in step#1.  You should be able to develop 3-5 categories of modifications and assign each modification to one of these categories.

For your deliverable (due at the start of class on Monday, March 9th) I would like you to turn in your list of categories and the modifications that fit into each category.

Your grade for this activity will be based on the categories that you develop, the number of modifications that you included in these categories, and how well the modifications fit those categories.  Try to include in your deliverable some evidence that you actually put some thought into this assignment.  Notice that this is replacing a day's lecture.  Thus, if you spend 5 or 10 minutes on this you have clearly not put enough time and thought into the process.
