TITLE: A Good Day AUTHOR: Eugene Wallingford DATE: October 13, 2005 6:36 PM DESC: Days like this keep me going back into the classroom, even if they are rare -- perhaps because they are. ----- BODY: Some days, I walk out of the classroom and feel, "Man, I am good." Today was such a day. It wasn't a perfect class, though I've felt that way some days, too. But today everything seemed to go just right: The problem we solved was challenging, and the ideas we needed to solve it flowed naturally. Students asked questions at the right times, which let me address important issues just in time. Unsolicited, students also made comments that added lightness to our work, and comments that indicated they were seeing the beauty in the approach and the code. I leave the classroom enough days feeling much less, so this sensation stands out. It's a nice way to end the week before I head off to OOPSLA. Now, I have no idea that the students felt the same way leaving class as I did, other than the well-placed questions and comments. For all I know, they left saying "Man, that guy is a @#$%^?." I hope not but, you know, somedays it just doesn't matter. -----
