TITLE: Your Voice Cannot Command AUTHOR: Eugene Wallingford DATE: October 02, 2010 9:38 PM DESC: ----- BODY: I've been carrying this tune in my mind for the last couple of days, courtesy of singer-songwriter and fellow Indianapolis native John Hiatt:
So whatever your hands find to do
You must do with all your heart
There are thoughts enough
To blow men's minds and tear great worlds apart ... Don't ask what you are not doing
Because your voice cannot command
In time we will move mountains
And it will come through your hands
One of my deepest hopes as a parent is that I can help my daughters carry this message with them throughout their lives. I also figure I'll be doing all right as a teacher if my students take this message with them when they graduate, whether or not they remember anything particular about design patterns or lambda. -----
