I recently discovered that the students at my university have
a chess club, so I stopped over yesterday to play a couple of
games.  In the first, my opponent played Philidor's Defense.
In the second, I played Petrov's Defense.  For a moment, I
felt as if we had drifted in time to a Parisian cafe, circa
1770.

Then I looked up and saw a bank of TV screens surrounded by
students who were drinking lattes and using cell phones to
scroll through photos.  I was back from my reverie.
