Intelligent Systems

Textbook

Our text this semester will be the third edition of Peter Jackson's Introduction to Expert Systems (Addison Wesley, 1999). Jackson does a fairly good job of discussing knowledge-based systems from the perspective of tasks and methods. I may augment his material throughout the semester in class and with an occasional handout.

If You Have Never Had AI

If you have not had a course in artificial intelligence, I suggest the following, in addition to the assigned reading schedule:

You may also want to consider checking a good AI text out of the library to use as a reference. Please contact me if I can ever be of more assistance!

Tentative Reading Schedule

This schedule is tentative for two reasons. One, I may want to change the suggested order of your readings based on what we do in class, what you choose to do for a project, and so on. Two, you may want to change the suggested order of your readings based on what we do in class, what you choose to do for a project, and so on. Because I won't be directly testing you on this material, the order in which you read it and the care that you show it will depend largely on your own decisions.
