But I do have a bit of related good news to post...

I've received an invitation to Peter Denning's "Rebooting
Computing" summit, which I first mentioned when covering
<A HREF="http://www.cs.uni.edu/~wallingf/blog/archives/monthly/2008-03.html#e2008-03-17T16_18_16.htm">
   Denning's talk</A>
at SIGCSE.  The summit is scheduled for January 2009 and
is part of Denning's NSF-funded
<A HREF="http://cs.gmu.edu/cne/pjd/cpath/">
   Resparking Innovation in Computing Education</A>
project.  This will be a chance to spend a few days with
others thinking about this issue to outline concrete steps
that we all might take to make change.  I've written about
this issue frequently here, most recently in the form of
<A HREF="http://www.cs.uni.edu/~wallingf/blog/archives/monthly/2008-05.html#e2008-05-09T08_03_49.htm">
   studio-based computing</A>,
<A HREF="http://www.cs.uni.edu/~wallingf/blog/archives/monthly/2007-10.html#e2007-10-18T08_40_16.htm">
   project-based</A>
and
<A HREF="http://www.compscipbl.com/">
   problem-based</A>
learning, and programming for non-CS folks like
computing into their own work.  (Like
<A HREF="http://www.cs.uni.edu/~wallingf/blog/archives/monthly/2007-11.html#e2007-11-20T13_28_03.htm">
   scientists</A>
and
<A HREF="http://www.cs.uni.edu/~wallingf/blog/archives/monthly/2008-02.html#e2008-02-26T18_00_08.htm">
   artists</A>.
I'm excited about this chance.
